Chicago Tribune Aug '99: Per capita incomes are lower than 1980 in
nearly half the world's nations - in 1960 the richest 1/5 of the world had 30 times the
income of the poorest 1/5, now its 74 times - the gap is growing and may not be
addressed until the same trend comes dangerously to light within the national shores of the rich.
The world population doubles every 40 years. On the millennium
we hit 6 billion.
National Geographic Aug '99: 15% of the global population or
nearly 1 billion are illiterate. They will never be able to read
the web pages and economy you and I enjoy.
