Intro: this area
monitored by Kevin Long |
Virtual World News will follow one guideline in monitoring
virtual world projects: they must be pure art and culturally/socially
conscious. We can also post your project in progress.
|
| Nemo's Mind
Nemo's Mind |
Sponsored by VWN. This may be the
first open development design document for an interactive program. This
project fully exposes the concept of a virtual world and incorporates an application that
can be used in that framework. Nemo's Mind is the flag ship
concrete example of what VWN is all about. The design
document on this site will show how to brainstorm and develop a
virtual world.
cultural,
virtual, socially conscious

Notre Dame Project |
The Notre Dame project is a perfect
example of a VWN style virtual world. It will soon be running on 24 hour servers so
you can enjoy and text chat with others. It is sponsored in part by the United
Nations to preserve just one of the worlds many treasure pieces. To preserve in a
totally new way - meaning to make the Notre Dame art available to more patrons the world
wide. I haven't been there and I am excited to have the virtual version.
Hopefully more cultural projects like this will preserve world wide architecture and art
and then every 5 years or so they are updated with the latest technology such as
voice, more interactive, more detailed. But this project fully exposes the future of
virtual worlds. And they do plan to continually update this
project.Participants will be able to talk to each other by the text chat.
You can explore it with others -
or do it by your self with out hooking up to the net.

Please keep in mind that this version is NOT 100% architecturally
accurate and should be considered more as a proof of concept for what
can be accomplished using such technologies. The percentage of
accuracy will increase as future versions are released.

Role Playing Games |
|
Role Playing games are at this moment the best example of a virtual
world's social and environmental interaction, and 3D graphics.
The 2 top contenders at this moment:
- Everquest
Huge and will evolve through the years to take advantage of the
latest graphics. Tough monsters force group playing
- Asheron's
Call Same as Everquest only it doesn't break
immersion with level loading and distance fogging. It has
also gone in the other direction for solo playing, and many like being
able to ignore the present state of chat - which this year
is still text chat unless you and others use a 3rd party voice
program.
